The unfortunate woman was just steps away from her son’s memorial when she was fatally shot on Wednesday. Her son, 14-year-old Kevin Tinker, died from gunshot wounds the Sunday before.
Tucker’s Son Was Killed at the Exact Same Place
Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday. They found Delica Tucker, 31, lying on a pavement in the 200 block of West 110th Place.
She was quickly carried to Roseland Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials say. There were no eyewitnesses to the shooting, and so far, no one has been taken into custody.
Last Sunday, her 14-year-old son was shot several times at the same location and pronounced dead at the scene. CPD stated that investigations for both cases are ongoing and refused to comment if they are related.
Tucker Leaves Behind Five Other Children
Michelle Tharpe, a family friend, started a GoFundMe campaign to pay for the family’s funeral expenses. She wrote that the unfortunate woman died while lighting candles for her child and added that she left behind five other children.
The number of shootings in Chicago has skyrocketed this year. CPD’s gun violence statistics show 3,105 incidents in 2021 so far. This is a 10% increase over 2020 and a 66% increase compared to 2019.
Chicago is considered one of the most dangerous cities in the US, and the latest shooting just contributes to that belief.
