Eric Popper (30), was arrested after opening fire during a road-rage shooting in June. The Miami-Dade authorities just released a chilling dashcam video of the incident. The arrested man claims he was shot at first, but the video doesn’t prove it. He is facing two second-degree felony charges for this incident. Popper was arrested before in 2012 for theft and trespassing.
A Reckless Cut-off Led to a Road Rage Shooting Incident
The incident occurred on I-95 in northwest Miami-Dade, Florida, on June 21. Eric Popper had cut off another driver whose identity is not disclosed. After it, he tailgated Popper and made hand gestures.
It all led to a gunfight in which Popper fired the handgun 11 times at the other driver. He damaged the windows and windshield on his car in the process.
After the incident, Popper pulled off the highway and called the police. He turned himself in and submitted the dashcam video. He later sent a letter of resignation from his post as a civilian fire inspector with Miami Beach Fire Rescue.
Popper’s Lawyer Claims the Video Is Proof That His Client Was Shot Upon First
Robert Gershman told the reporters that the sound heard at the beginning of the video proves that his client was shooting in self-defense after being fired upon. However, the other driver involved in the incident claims he didn’t shoot but threw a water bottle at Poppers’ car. Police confirm no weapon has been found in his vehicle after the incident.
Popper Is Facing Two Second-Degree Felony Charges for the Shooting
This is not Popper’s first arrest. In 2012, he was arrested for theft and trespassing, but the charges were dropped.
