With the average gas prices remaining around $3.81 in Missouri, everyone is looking for methods to save money at the pump. And cashing in on Missouri’s new tax-refund regulation is one of the ways to do it.
However, not many people use this benefit due to complicated procedures. Fortunately, the new No MO Gas Tax app will simplify the process.
The Gas Refund Is Actually a Tax Refund, Which Complicates the Procedure
Like all taxes, the papers and regulations can be time-consuming. However, the residents should use this benefit because the tax will rise in the future. Every gallon of gas went up 2.5 cents on October 1 of last year due to it.
In addition, it will continue increasing by 2.5 cents every year until July 2025, when it will be ten cents per gallon higher than it is presently at 29.5 cents.
The Tax Is Refundable for the Majority of Missouri Drivers, Starting From July 1
All Missouri residents with vehicles 26,000 pounds are eligible for a refund. They have 90 days to apply for it, starting July 1.
Unfortunately, they have to print and keep the receipts and calculate the tax. This was a dissuading factor for most people.
No MO Gas Tax App Makes Refunds Easier to Get
Tammi Hilton, the No MO Gas Tax app creator, says she created it because she believed most Missourians didn’t understand the gas tax.
Now, they can ask for a refund much easier. They still have to print the receipt and take a picture, but the app will do the calculations. She hopes that the state’s electronic filing website will start operating soon so she can interface her app and make the procedure even simpler.
