The Virginia Beach Police Department will now be aided by The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in search of the perpetrators and the stolen weapons, which include handguns and rifles.
The Police Are Looking for Four Vehicles They Believe to Be Linked to the Burglary
The weapons were stolen from a DOA Arms store on Thursday morning. The police didn’t reveal if they were stored in a gun safe or were kept in the open.
However, they have revealed that they’re looking for the owners of four vehicles they suspect were involved in the crime and released photos of the cars in question.
To aid in the investigation, Virginia Beach Crime Solvers, the ATF, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation are offering a reward for information that could lead to an arrest.
Citizens Could Prevent Gun Theft
The Virginia Beach Police Department is putting in a lot of effort in battling gun thefts, but it needs help from citizens. According to statistics, most weapons are stolen from vehicles.
In a period of 28 days in October and November, there were 200 thefts from cars which led to 19 guns being taken. Very often, these guns are later used in crimes.
If you have to carry a weapon in your vehicle, the best prevention is locking the doors and installing a car gun safe.
