Cathedral City PD Thursday is looking into a shooting that ended with the hospitalization of a 14-year-old boy. He was hit by a bullet fired from a weapon handled by his father. He claims he had recently purchased the gun and didn’t know it was loaded.
The Teen Boy Was in the Other Room When Hit by the Bullet
Sgt. Albert Ruiz of the Cathedral City PD said that the police received a call at about 7:09 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived at the 68100 block of Peladora Road, they discovered a gunshot victim. He was sitting in the other room while his father was handling the gun. When he accidentally pulled the trigger, the bullet went through the wall and hit the teenager.
The Victim Is Stable
The bullet hit the unfortunate teen in the left side of his back. He was rushed to the hospital, where the slug was removed without complications, the authorities said. The father was not detained, but the police have opened an investigation.
This is the latest in the disturbing series of accidental shootings. The statistics say that 7,957 children and teens are shot annually in the US. Gun owners should get training on using and maintaining guns and provide safe storage when they are not used.
